Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This policy describes what MonsterConvert ("we", "us") does with information when you use monsterconvert.com. In short: the images and PDFs you work on stay on your device, and the only data we gather is ordinary visit statistics, which you can decline.
The short version
- Your files are processed inside your browser. They are not uploaded to us or to anyone else.
- The tools do not ask for personal details such as your name or email address.
- Google Analytics, which counts visits, only loads if you accept it in the banner. If you do, it sets cookies and records technical details such as your approximate location, browser and device.
- The site's fonts are served from our own site, so opening a page does not contact Google to fetch them.
- If you email us, we keep your message so we can reply.
What happens to your files
When you add a file, your browser reads it and the work (converting, compressing, editing, merging or splitting) runs on your own device. The code that does this is downloaded together with the page. The file itself is never sent to our servers, and none of the tools has an upload step.
Results are kept in your browser's memory so you can download them. They are discarded when you remove the file, close the tab or reload the page. We keep no copy, so we cannot recover, restore or look at anything you processed.
Files can carry hidden details, such as the camera model, date and GPS location of a photo, or the author and title of a PDF. Converting or compressing an image usually drops those details, but not in every case, and the PDF tools leave a document's own details as they are. Check the result if this matters to you.
One feature uses the network beyond loading the site. The "From URL" option in the image tools asks your browser to download a picture from the address you type. That request goes from your browser straight to the other website, which can see your IP address. It does not pass through us.
Information we collect
There are three sources.
- Visit statistics, only if you accept analytics. Google Analytics reports which pages are opened, how people arrive (for example from a search engine or a link), how long visits last, and technical details such as country and city (worked out by Google from the IP address), language, operating system, browser and screen size. We have not set up any analytics events that include file names, file contents or the formats you choose.
- Server records. Our hosting provider logs each request to the site: the IP address, the page requested, the time, the browser's user-agent string and whether the request succeeded. These records are used to deliver the site and to spot abuse.
- Messages you send. If you email hi@monsterconvert.com, we receive your email address, the text of your message and anything you attach.
We do not take payments at the moment, so we hold no card or billing details. We do not collect names or postal addresses, and we do not try to identify individual visitors.
Third parties that see some data
- Google Analytics receives the visit data described above, but only if you accept it. Google may process it in countries other than yours, including the United States. Google's own policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
- Fonts. The site's typeface is served from our own site, so your browser does not ask Google or any other font service for it.
- A hosting and content delivery provider serves the site's files and keeps the server records mentioned above.
- Websites you import from. If you use the "From URL" option, the site you type in receives your request directly, as described earlier.
- Advertising and affiliate partners. We do not show advertising at the moment. We may add advertising or affiliate links in the future. If we do, the partners involved may set their own cookies, and we will update this policy before that starts. The site's code contains a verification tag issued by an affiliate network; it only proves that we run the site and does not track visitors.
We do not sell your information, and we share it with no one except the providers listed above.
How we use information
- To see which tools and pages are used, so we know what to fix or build next.
- To find errors and slow pages.
- To keep the site available and to block abusive traffic.
- To answer your messages.
We do not use this information to make automated decisions about you.
Legal bases (EEA and UK)
If the GDPR, the UK GDPR or the rules on cookies (the ePrivacy rules) apply to you, we ask for your consent before Google Analytics loads or sets any cookie, and we rely on that consent for visit statistics. You can withdraw it at any time with Cookie settings in the footer. We rely on legitimate interests for server records: we need to keep the site running and secure. For emails, we process your message because you asked us something and we need to reply.
How long we keep it
- Analytics data is kept for the period set in our Google Analytics account. Reports are based on aggregated figures.
- Server records are kept by our hosting provider for the period its own policy sets.
- Your answer to the analytics banner stays in your browser until you clear the site's data or change it.
- Emails are kept for as long as needed to answer you and handle any follow-up, then deleted.
Your choices
- Decline analytics in the banner, or change your answer at any time with Cookie settings in the footer.
- You can also block analytics with Google's opt-out browser add-on or with a content blocker. The site works the same with analytics blocked.
- Delete or block cookies in your browser settings.
- Skip the "From URL" option if you do not want another website to see your request. Adding a file from your device does not contact anyone.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, the UK or California), you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive a copy, and to withdraw consent you gave. To use any of these rights, write to hi@monsterconvert.com.
Because we do not know who a visitor is, we can only find information that is tied to something you give us, such as the email address you wrote from. Analytics data cannot be looked up by name. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Security
Files stay on your device, so their safety depends mostly on that device. Other browser extensions, malware and other people using the same computer can see what you open in a browser. For sensitive documents, use a device and browser profile you trust, and close the tab when you are done. The site is served over HTTPS.
Children
The site is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has sent us information, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If a change affects how your data is handled in a material way, we will say so on this page before or when it takes effect.
